“Hunger Hill Road” / “Ghosts Are Dancing” is the first introduction to SAM MORTON’s unflinching, raw and, at times, devastatingly intimate musical world. Available only on hand-stamped, 7” vinyl and limited to just 300 copies, it’s the debut release from the duo, comprised of singer, songwriter and acclaimed actor and director Samantha Morton and music producer and artist Richard Russell.
Despite a lifelong love of, and involvement in, music, this is Samantha Morton’s first ever artist project. It came about after Russell reached out following her much talked about appearance on Desert Island Discs and a shared love of one of her song selections in particular: “I Remember” by Molly Drake. The period of spontaneous and intense collaboration that soon followed yielded a huge amount of music and acted as a cathartic vehicle for Morton’s mainly autobiographical lyricism and songwriting.
We can expect much more from the duo as we approach 2024 but in the meantime, “Hunger Hill Road / Ghosts Are Dancing” is available now

While I'm a huge fan of electronic music, I love when these projects also introduce a narrative aspect. The unfolding history of Martin's musical journey adds such a wonderful dimension while listening to these albums. Not to mention the great visuals, too.

I lived and worked in Berlin the 80s. West Berlin. The legendary Hansa Studios. Heard rumours about Martin’s studio, and snippets of music. I never managed to connect with him though. So it’s a delight that his catalog is now being shared with the world. Sounding simultaneously timeless and futuristic. Thank you. geniusjones
